Chief Executive Officer, One Community Health

OVERVIEW

One Community Health is a medical clinic with a mission to advance health and social justice for all members of Hood River, Oregon and surrounding communities. Offering comprehensive medical, dental, and behavioral health care through a team-based approach, One Community Health welcomes all patients regardless of insurance status or ability to pay. As the largest Medicaid subscriber in the region, the clinic has patient care advocates who advise patients in Medicaid enrollment and services.

CHALLENGE

At the time of our search, the organization was without a CEO and was engaged in a major facility investment. To pay for the facility, the clinic had made a commitment to quadruple their dental service operations and increase other clinic revenue. The clinic tasked us with finding a CEO with strong strategic planning abilities and razor-sharp business acumen. The CEO needed to juggle government funding with other revenue sources, in addition to building an effective operations framework in close collaboration with the board and the leadership team. While health care experience mattered, what mattered more was the CEO’s ability to drive growth and implement initiatives that would lead to long-term sustainability. To make things more challenging, we needed to recruit a CEO who’d be willing to live in a remote area with a limited compensation package. There was a lot riding on the line.

RESULT

We found the ideal candidate to fill the CEO position. The hire we found has become the most strategic and valuable leader in the history of the organization. Under his leadership, the organization has exceeded their growth plans and now is able to provide a broad array of health care services. What was once an unattractive building for the clinic is now a state-of-the-art facility that’s truly a “wow” factor for the community. The organization’s mission, goals, and initiatives are all in alignment, providing a rock-solid foundation for continuing to provide much-needed care in the community for many years to come.
